Our Farm

Brick House Acres is a family-run greenhouse and berry farm located in central NY. Our garden center is open to the public May-June with annuals, perennials, vegetable plants, herbs, flowers, planters, and hanging baskets. Pick-your-own organic berries from our scenic hillside in July. Fresh eggs are available year-round.

The owners, Sean & Alyssa Davis, take pride in their work and love getting to know their customers. Having seven children of their own, they appreciate the value of safe, organic, and environmentally friendly products.

Founded: May 2002

Mission: We work to provide you with robust, healthy plants and organic, sun-ripened berries. No pesticides or herbicides are used on our farm. We take pride in helping others succeed at gardening, even if they feel like they have a black thumb!

Our Story

My husband and I left suburbia in 2007 and bought a farm. The previous owners, Gary & Amy Dall, started Brick House Acres in 2002 and wanted to see it continue to prosper. We had 3 young children at the time with one on the way. We wanted to raise our children in the country and to teach them to work. A running farm and business was a lot to take on, but we welcomed the challenge. The previous owners graciously worked with us for a season, then we were on our own.

Since that time, our family has grown in size as well as experience. We now have 7 children and have learned to garden, can, sew, bake, raise chickens, compost, and make stock. Cats, chickens, steers, rabbits, and a little corgi have joined us in the effort. Farm life is hard but rewarding. We are learning and growing so much as a family and have been truly blessed. This historic farm is our own little piece of heaven!

The brick house at Brick House Acres

A 200 year old brick house is the highlight of the property. It was once a stage coach stop along the Underground Railroad and has a rich history. The house was built with secret rooms and underground tunnels which aided many slaves in their flight to freedom. It is in need of many repairs, which we look at as a lifetime labor of love.  We are working to preserve the original features of this beautiful house as much as possible.  If you have a stash of old bricks, you may be our next best friend!

Since this farm is our home, we choose to grow plants without the use of toxic chemicals.  Instead, we use safe organic methods, such as beneficial insects, to control pests and disease.  We are constantly seeking to make our farm more sustainable and self-supporting.  For example, our rabbits & chickens happily devour weeds from the garden and in turn provide plenty of nitrogen-rich manure to fertilize our plants and berries.

It’s hard to imagine the satisfaction that comes from sinking your teeth into a juicy tomato you have grown yourself, or serving fresh eggs from your own hens.  We love to share what we have learned with others.  We enjoy getting to know our customers and have gained so much inspiration from them. We take pride in helping our customers succeed at growing their own food, even if they feel like they have a black thumb!
