Asparagus is a perennial vegetable – plant once and enjoy succulent spears every spring. Space crowns 12″ apart in fertile, weed-free beds. Add a layer of mulch. Harvest light cuttings the following spring and regular crops thereafter. Cut spears from established plants for 30-60 days in spring then allow the tall ferny fronds to grow the rest of the summer.
